RC kits and RTR buying guide: models, parts and compatibility
October 8, 2026
Start with the correct model
Start an RC shopping list with the job you want the item to do: build a vehicle, repair a part, improve the workshop or find a reference. Compare the actual specifications rather than relying on a product title or photograph alone.
Compare the included equipment carefully. A kit may require additional electronics and assembly supplies; an RTR package may still need batteries or a charger. Read the package contents for that specific listing.
Compare the complete purchase
For a vehicle or kit, check the scale, power system and included equipment. For electronics, compare voltage limits, connectors, dimensions and mounting requirements. For tires and bodies, check wheel size, offset or body dimensions against the vehicle documentation. Include shipping costs and any missing equipment in your budget.
Check condition and seller details
Read the description, seller information and return conditions. Photographs should support the stated condition. Confirm the quantity in the package: a photo of several components does not always mean they are all included. Current price and availability should be checked on the destination store.
Keep a useful parts record
Save the model, part number, quantity and a clear photo of the item or packaging. Keeping those details together helps distinguish replacement stock from spare parts for a different vehicle. Physically count your own stock before making it available for sale.
